Born in Korea, Joohyun Choi began her musical training at Deokwon Art High School before moving to Germany to study performance (Künstlerische Ausbildung) at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt. During her studies, she gained extensive professional experience as a guest performer at the Staatstheater Darmstadt.

Joohyun has distinguished herself in numerous competitions.  She was awarded first prize at "Jugend musiziert" as well as at the Princess Margaret of Hesse Competition,  and has earned prizes at various other competitions throughout her career.

In 2025, she successfully completed her Master’s degree in Historical Performance Practice (HIP) at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK). Specializing in the traverso under the guidance of Prof. Daniela Lieb,  she has established herself as a versatile performer. That same year, she was invited to perform at prestigious festivals, including the Musikfest Eichstätt and the Gotha Barockfest.

Since 2023, Joohyun has been a founding member of Ensemble Otium Moment, with which she performs regularly and realizes a wide range of diverse artistic projects.
